"يا الله! أين كنت، وأين أصبحت؟! مؤكد إنها عين وصابتني! هل فقدت ذاكرتي؟! لا، مازلت أذكر جيدا أنني كنت أرسم خارطة التجارة العالمية، وكنت أحرس الجزيرة العربية، وكنت أصدر البخور واللبان لجميع معابد العالم! مؤكد أني غلطت في العنوان، وكأني نمت نومة أهل الكهف، وعندما صحوت وجدت نفسي وأنا أمسك بعلاقية قات بدلا من شتلة البن، ووجدت نفسي بعيدا عن المدرجات الزراعية وحقول القمح، أقف في إحدى الجولات الممتلئة بالمتسولين، وأمر في طريق بين عشرة أشخاص يمشون فيه، أجد ثلاثة منهم مجانين.
هذا ليس أنا! أنا متأكد! أذكر جيدا أنني قبل أن أدخل الكهف كنت أنادي على ابنتي بلقيس وأفاخر بحكمتها وشجاعتها، وكنت أحكي للعالم عن براعة ولدي حمير، وشجاعة ولدي سيف... فكيف يتصور عاقل أن تتحول سير البطولات والأمجاد والتاريخ إلى نشرة أخبار مفزعة لقطاع قبلي أو اختطاف سائح أو تفجير إرهابي أو تلغيم أو... أو...
كنت أذهب بصدقة الطيور إلى مكة المكرمة، وفي الوقت الذي كان العالم يعاني فيه من الجوع كانت "مدافن" القمح والحبوب ممتلئة بالخير الوفير، وكان عسلي وعنبي وتمري وقمحي مضربا للمثل، وكانت شواطئي وموانئي قبلة للتجار، يأتون إليها من كل فج عميق في العالم... فكيف أصبحت أعيش على المساعدات؟! وأتجرع الجرعات؟ وأعاني من الظلام والانطفاءات؟ ومن رفع البترول والديزل والمشتقات؟...
أبنائي هم الأرق قلوبا، وليسوا الأكثر فسادا!
هم الألين أفئدة، وليسوا الأكثر عنفا واختطافا وقطاعا!
هم الأسخى يدا؛ وليسوا الأوسع جيوبا؟
أنا اليمن، الإيمان، الحكمة، الفقه، البركة... نفس الرحمن من أرضي، وأنا أصل العرب وفصلهم، كلهم أولاد ولدي يعرب بن قحطان، أنا أول من بنى سدا في التاريخ، وأول من بنى ناطحات السحاب، وأول من شيد العمارات السكنية، وأول من صنع باباً للبيت، وأول من بنى المدرجات الزراعية، وأول من صدر البن، وأول من جاء بالمصافحة... كنت الأول في كل مضمار تتبارى فيه الأمم والدول؛ فلماذا أنا الآن الأول في الأمور السيئة فقط، والأخير في كل شيء جميل"
